Clinicopathological Survey on Ovarian Tumors

Abstract
A series of 114 ovarian tumors were studied on a statistic standpoint. All cases were operated on and diagnosis were confirmed by histopathological study at department of Obst. & Gyn. and pathology, Fatima Hospital, Taegu, Korea, between May 1964 and April 1970. The results were: 1. The incidence of begnign tumor was 86% of all ovarian tumors and that of malignant tumor was 14%. 2. Cystic tumor were 82.5% of all benign tumor while that of solid ones was 17.5%. 3. Mean age of benign ovarian tumor was 37.3 years and that of malignant ones was 43., showing 6.3 years difference in between. Mean age of all tumor was 38.5 years. 4. 26.3% of all ovarian tumors were from nulliparous women and 34.2% of them were from parity of 3 or more. 5. Menstruation were regular in 44.7% and irregular in 15.8% of all ovarian tumors. 6. Abdominal pain or discomfort was present in 59.8% of all ovarian tumors and distension and/or mass in 49.1%. There was not too much difference between benign and malignant tumors. 7. Goose egg sized tumors were 41 out of 129 and most frequent, then adult fist size came next. 8. Bilaterality of serous cystadenoma and 13.3% in dermoid cyst. 9. The incidence of pedicle torsion was 24% in mucinous cystadenoma, 15.4% in serous cystadenoma and 13.3% in dermoid cyst. 10. Among all benign tumors, dermoid cyst was most common and was 30.6% of all. Serous cystadenoma was in 26.5% and mucinous cystadenoma in 25.5%. 11. The incidence of malignancy in serous typr was 13.3% and that in mucinous one was 7.4%.
